Seneca County established a Hazardous Materials/Special
Operations Response Team with a Board of Supervisors
Resolution, July 10, 2002.
The Team is overseen by Seneca County Office Of
Emergency Services.
At The present time, the team has 30 members,to include
members form the County Health Dept, Sheriff's Office and with
the remainder consisting of volunteer firefighters and EMS Agencies.
Team members are trained to the Haz-Mat Technician Level.
The county took delivery of over 250,000.00 of hazardous
materials response equipment from NYS Office of
Homeland Security. This equipment consists of level A
response suits, respirators,detection equipment for
chemicals as well as nerve & blister agents,
decontamination equipment
to include a decon shelter and for
mass decontamination and a 23' trailer. Additional
equipment has been purchased to include specialized
communications equipment, a portable weather station and
portable closed circuit video camera.
The Seneca County HAZ-Mat Team is a regional team,
to include responses to Ontario,Yates,Wayne and Schulyer Counties
The team continues to train and enhance their capabilites.
